Unfortunately, our clients are often asking us for help with that..
Their files and computer are unusable, well, like totally blocked!

One has recently lost all the engineering robotic architecture & 1 month of work. It was all crypto locked.
Even worst, this bad nasty virus went on and created all of his back-ups too.
He needed to pay the hacked a total price of $450 for recovering his files, and that is without knowing if it will happen again ..
On this one, I would say that this is quite good news. It sometimes doesn’t go well like that. ..
Right, remember that he doesn’t know how it happens .. So basically, sadly, it can happen again. 🙁

Another one wrote to us saying that all of his pictures stores on his computer has been completely crypto-locked destroyed and can’t see it anymore.
So he went on his cloud backup and guess what… ?? All encrypted also. (Yes, his google drive backup was crypto locked also) ..
As soon as you connect your cloud drive to your computer, the nasty virus cryptolocker everything he sees including your backup 🙁 ..
The hacker requested $2500 for a recovery key.. and got it for $1700.
Again, without knowing if it will happen again.

Worst … A business client wrote to us that is the entire company was shut down because of it.
It cost him over $100 000 (4-days complete shutdown) of productivity loss and $30 000 for a security expert to recover and secure everything.. Sad. very sad story .. but trust me, he learned something.
The lesson here is that it will cost you 7, even 10 times more to recover from a virus than to invest to prevent it

Well, the free preventive solution to mitigate the impact of this nasty virus is to never
Disconnect it as soon as you can. Note that it doesn’t protect you against anything.
At this point, I always say that it will cost you less in prevention than what it could cost you if you get crypto-locked.
Trust me on that, if you don’t have proper antivirus software, it is not an “IF” it happens but a “WHEN” it happens
